Camas City Council, Ward 3, Position 2 candidate Leslie Lewallen is proud to announce the endorsement of former Chief Justice of the Washington State Supreme Court Gerry Alexander for her Camas City Council campaign.  “I’m honored to have one of our country’s most brilliant legal minds supporting my plan to bring open, transparent and effective leadership back to the City of Camas. Camas deserves better,” Lewallen said.    


“I am honored to endorse Leslie Marshall Lewallen for the Camas City Council.,” Chief Justice Alexander said. “During her practice, and also as my judicial law clerk at the Washington State Supreme Court, Leslie has earned the respect and admiration of her peers in the legal community. Her distinguished resume as a practitioner and published law clerk highlights her expert understanding of many complex legal issues impacting cities in the State of Washington today.” 

 

Alexander added, “I have always been impressed by her command of the law, familiarity with the issues and effort to reach a just result.  She is hardworking, smart, and fair with exceptional communications skills and a collaborative approach to problem solving. She will make an excellent nonpartisan legislator.”

 

Justice Gerry L. Alexander, former Chief Justice of the Washington State Supreme Court, was the first chief justice in Washington’s history to serve two consecutive four-year terms as chief justice.  Justice Alexander joined the state’s highest bench with over two decades of trial and appellate court experience behind him, having served as a judge of the Superior Court for Thurston and Mason Counties from 1973 through 1984, and as a judge of the Court of Appeals, Division Two, from 1985 through 1994. Prior to commencing his lengthy judicial career, he practiced law privately in Olympia with the firm of Parr, Baker, Alexander, and Cordes.  He has deep Washington roots, graduating from Olympia High School.  After receiving an undergraduate degree in history from the University of Washington, he served as a lieutenant in the United States Army Infantry for three years, and then returned to his alma mater to earn his J.D. in 1964.
