    Ask Leslie- Public Safety Challenges

Today's Question: From your perspective, what do you see as the most challenging public safety issue in Camas today? Leslie responds: On May 18, 2021, Washington Governor Jay Inslee signed a police accountability legislative package which included 12 House and Senate bills that have law enforcement considerations. This package included HB1054, HB1088, HB1089, HB 1140, HB 1214, HB 1223, HB 1267, HB 1310, HB 1320, SB 5051, SB 5055 and SB 5066. The new legislation requires that

    Ask Leslie- Collaboration

Today's Question: What do you see as the Council’s vision in working with other cities in Clark County and the County Council as a whole? Leslie responds: We are just a village in a larger community. We must understand our role in a larger picture. We must be good neighbors and work together. But we also compete with our neighbors, and in that context, we must be protective of what we have. We must be constantly aware of things that may degrade our quality of life and the bea

Ask Leslie- No Bond, No Additional Tax Load

Today’s Question: In your Contract With Camas, you say we can build a Crown Park Replacement Pool with no bond and no additional tax load to Camas taxpayers. If it won’t raise taxes, where will the money come from? Leslie’s Response: There are many ways to fund this construction/operation that eliminates the need for additional taxation. Let’s remember that prior to the City digging the Crown Park pool up in order to sell us a $78 million dollar replacement, we paid to repair

    Contract With Camas- Pool Replacement

Hey Camas. Leslie Lewallen here and I’m working hard to be your next City Councilor. Last week, I told you about my first 100 day legislative agenda for the Camas City Council called my Contract With Camas. Three major initiatives before April 15th. Today, I want to dive down on my first priority: REPLACING THE CROWN PARK POOL. If I’m elected, I will write and offer to the City Council, legislative action to initiate the immediate planning, design, and construction of a new

    Ask Leslie- Unintended Consequences

Today's Question: Sometimes, great intentions have unintended consequences. How do you deal with decisions you made but later realize didn’t work out as intended? Leslie's Response: We often learn more from our mistakes than we do from our successes. My campaign is founded on the principle of accountability. Accountability means we take ownership of failure as easily as we take credit for success. We do not pass the blame off on somebody else, or something else. We take respo

Ask Leslie- What Must Camas Change ASAP?

Today's Question: Are there any aspects of City operations or priorities that you believe need to be reconsidered? Why? Leslie responds: There sure are. It’s why I’m running for City Council. Currently, our City Council lacks transparency, accountability, and competence. This trifecta has created an environment where paid consultants are used to make almost every decision at City Hall. We need to elect legislators who know how to legislate and can work directly with trade ass

    Ask Leslie- We Need Realtors!

Today's Question As you consider your vision for Camas’s neighborhoods, businesses, parks, and schools, how could you see Realtors and the real estate community being a partner in helping move that vision forward? Leslie responds: Realtors are the ultimate matchmakers. They work more diligently than anyone to find exactly the right buyer for each and every property. Realtors are the ones who understand the gems of Camas better than anyone. They comprehend the real selling fea

    Leadership In Action

This is leadership in action. Leslie is working hard on the issues that matter MOST to Camas. This morning, in between canvassing and getting kids to camp, she is deconstructing the Notice letter sent to the City of Camas and Lacamas Shores Homeowners for violations of the Clean Water Act. Soon, she'll take her notes and write a new informational blog to help Camasonians understand what's really happening. No sides. No teams. Just the truth. This is leadership in action. It's

    Lacamas Lake is Dangerous- AGAIN

As reported by Marie Callerame: Superhigh Toxin Level in Lacamas Lake - the Bay By the Dock. WA State Department of Ecology's website just populated this morning with a sample collected 8/9. The result for microcystin is higher than it has EVER been recorded in our lakes - 3x higher than the highest reading! It measured as 261 µg/L. This over 40 times this state's guideline of 6 µg/L, well over dog-kill level. It is believed that Clark County Health took their sample in th

    Wait A Minute- Toxic Lakes

Memorial Day has passed and that means summer! Boating, swimming, kayaking, fishing and more. We here in the PNW love our great outdoors: the natural beauty, water, rivers streams and other recreational activities. But wait a minute…there’s a problem. Lacamas Lake doesn’t meet state water quality standards. Notice the water quality “alert” sign behind me warning people that toxic algae is present and that the water it’s unsafe for people and pets. However, our children, pe
